Design Updates in Progress

If you know me at all, you know I can’t leave well enough alone, be it rearranging furniture at home or changing design and layout here.

I’m tweaking the CSS as I figure out what I want it to do, so if something appears out of place, don’t be suprised.

MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream for Lunch

So Fresh, It Moos.

MaggieMoo’s has opened a series of Missouri locations, most recently one in West Oak Center; it’s within walking distance from work. After a warm lunch outside, we figured ice cream would cool us off, and help prolong the afternoon out of the office.

This Treatery holds more ice cream flavors than the Ladue one, so be excited. For those passionate about Better Batter (tastes like yellow cake batter) ice cream *cough* Kelly *cough*, they also have a Chocolate Better Batter. We sampled. It’s evil. It tastes like you think it would.

I replaced the disturbing flavor with the tastier Chocolate Amooretto mixed with strawberries. I’ll probably have to go back this weekend so someone can get her fix, and I’ll try something new then.

Blueberry Milkshake. Good Times.

My Children will be Drafted

And I will just miss the age cut-off.

What’s that you say? “You don’t have kids.” and “There is no draft.”

Well, no I don’t, and no there isn’t. Yet.

But it’s out there… Are you aware of bills H.R.163 and S.89?

Universal National Service Act of 2003 – Declares that it is the obligation of every U.S. citizen, and every other person residing in the United States, between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a two-year period of national service, unless exempted, either as a member of an active or reserve component of the armed forces or in a civilian capacity that promotes national defense. Requires induction into national service by the President. Sets forth provisions governing: (1) induction deferments, postponements, and exemptions, including exemption of a conscientious objector from military service that includes combatant training; and (2) discharge following national service.

Amends the Military Selective Service Act to authorize the military registration of females.

Great deal, but I wasn’t fast enough.

To celebrate my birthday, Office Max is selling the APC 1000VA UPS Battery Backup for $30 (reg.$129.99), but OM is sold out all over. I tried Circuit City for some price matching in person at StL Mills, but was denied since CC couldn’t find the item on OM’s site, and the salesperson was unable verify matching model numbers over the phone.

There are a few people who were fast enough to grab them from Office Max, and those successful in finding the price matching stores, but thanks to the lack of success so far, I’m not optimistic about my own chances at this point.

Regardless, I’m attempting CC in Brentwood tomorrow with an order placed online for in-store pickup. When I show up in the morning with OM’s ad, Circuit City can either do the work to price match, or can deal with the instant return of the item.

My new bike is officially, finally home

And so am I, because regardless of the weather, I’m not going to focus on work when I’ve got a new toy begging for a ride during what’s turning out to be a pretty day.

But before I can do that, I have to install the SPD pedals from my mountain bike, since the SPD-SL shoes to go with new bike pedals were back-ordered.

Thing is, I don’t have the tool to replace the pedals, so I’ve gotta hit the bike store first. So I need to hurry while the rain stays away. So I need to finish my sandwich and this sentence.

The girl at the bike shop was telling me they didn’t have the 15mm wrench I needed but another store did or I could just bring it in and they could do it… when I realized that I did in fact have what I needed. Back home I am. But the guy who put the pedals on the mtn bike made it too tight, and I can’t remove them. So I’m thowing the bike on the car roof to take it to the shop so they can do it. This is not how I planned on this afternoon going, but thats because this is more funny.

The girl at the bike store has a bigger wrench than I did… she got the pedals off for me. Because I am weak. I mean because she had more leverage.

Just got back from “testing” out the bike. Having spent the past year on a mountain bike, it was certainly different.

Having a road bike makes no difference in speed. Really.

(I love this bike!)
